Save our GPS

If you have not heard, there is a major threat to the GPS system that is looming over all of our heads. Lightsquared is a company that is proposing a network of towers nationwide to provide broadband services. That is great. The only problem is that they plan on broadcasting a very strong signal and the spectrum they propose to use is adjacent to the relatively weak GPS signal that many devices use. There is a real potential that many GPS users (phones, car navigation, etc…) and most precision GPS users (land surveyors, agriculture, etc…) will experience problems with their existing equipment if Lightsquared is allowed to broadcast in this spectrum. The simple solution is to simply move to a different area of the spectrum to broadcast from but they are fighting that.
